Peruvian-born, Washington-based contemporary realist painter exploring memory, identity, and beautiful unease.

Artist Statement

Fio Lombardi creates psychological realist paintings rooted in familiar domestic reality, memory, identity, and symbolic visual disruption.

Her work begins with recognizable subjects — faces, figures, objects, rooms, gestures — but moves beyond faithful observation into something more charged and unstable. Saturated color, theatrical light, precise realism, and moments of visual interference create images that feel intimate, beautiful, and slightly unsettled.

Lombardi’s paintings are shaped by a deep interest in psychological complexity: the private self, the performed self, memory, womanhood, family, transition, and the strange emotional weight carried by ordinary objects. Her work invites the viewer to look closely, not for a single answer, but for the tension between what is visible and what remains withheld.

About the Artist

Born in Peru and based in Browns Point, Washington, Fio Lombardi is a contemporary realist painter working primarily in oil.

Her practice is informed by classical painting traditions, contemporary visual language, and an obsessive attention to craft. With a professional background in technology and systems thinking, Lombardi brings discipline, structure, and precision into the studio while allowing symbolism, color, and psychological tension to disrupt the image.

She is currently developing a new body of psychological figurative paintings from her studio in Washington.
