ABOUT THE WORK
Don’t Look Me in the Eyes explores the tension between being seen and resisting being fully known.
The figure emerges through shifting passages of recognition and disruption. Areas of anatomical clarity sit beside accumulated, fractured, and heavily worked paint, allowing the surface to move between image and object. Rather than concealing the act of painting, the work makes it visible—the scraped edges, abrupt color shifts, broken forms, and physical buildup becoming part of the emotional experience of the figure.
There is intimacy in the encounter, but also resistance. The title suggests a refusal of direct access: a figure who can be looked at, examined, even approached, while still withholding something essential.
The painting marks an ongoing exploration of how psychological presence can exist not only through expression or narrative, but through the material language of paint itself.
