ABOUT THE WORK
The Things I Knew explores the unstable boundary between memory, identity, and transformation.
The figure remains quiet and psychologically present while the world around her—and across her—appears to grow, erode, and reorganize itself. Moss, roots, and fragments of landscape emerge through the body, suggesting something once familiar that can no longer be held in its original form. These elements do not simply surround the figure; they become entangled with her, blurring the distinction between person, memory, and environment.
Passages of preserved anatomical clarity sit beside dense accumulations of paint. The face retains a sense of stillness and recognition, while the body becomes increasingly physical and unsettled—built through broken color, scraped edges, fractured forms, and heavy impasto. The surface moves between image and object, as though the painting itself is undergoing the transformation it depicts.
